Satomi and the sound
さとみと音
(さとみとオン)
Japanese-American nostalgia, featuring flutist and singer Satomi.
Born and raised in Hawai’i, Satomi presents a compelling live performance of music from Japan and the U.S. Her selections evoke a sense of fond nostalgia, and include modern takes on music from Studio Ghibli films, J-pop, enka, jazz standards, and oldies.
Satomi and the sound is an expression of her own cultural and musical heritage- a dialogue of influences representing the Asian-American experience.
Satomi is a multi-faceted performer, trained from childhood as a ballerina and classical flutist. Professionally, she has appeared onstage as a flutist with The Dallas Opera, Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth.
In 2021, Satomi created the Pan-Tones, a genre-breaking “flute band” that successfully expanded the horizons of the classical flute, with frequent shows at festival stages and music venues. The group combines their collective virtuosity with the accessibility of popular genres, winning over both music aficionados and casual listeners.
Satomi is a formidable musician with the ability to connect genuinely with her audience. Her relentless creativity has set her apart as a singular artist.
